Ermysted’s Big Band – The Ermysted’s Big Band has been running for over ten years and has established itself as Big Band of choice for many local venues and organisations. There are over 35 players (although we don’t always play in those numbers!) and the band includes a select number of musicians who form the Combo, a smaller group formed to provide further opportunities for improvisation. Many of the band also play in North Yorkshire’s elite Big Band HYJO and a number of pupils have gone on to achieve entrance to prestigious music colleges such as the RNCM, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham Conservatoire, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) and even Harvard University .

During its time the band has performed a huge range of concerts including :

Professional bookings from Skipton Music (children’s concert)

An annual trip to Morecambe to perform at the Platform. Our first visit broke the attendance record and we have done pretty well on return visits.

Continental tours to Germany in 2004, 2007 and 2010.

Charity concerts for Christian Aid, local organisations and the Royal British Legion.

You will also see that the band also includes girls who join us from Skipton Girls’ High School. Expect an eclectic but entertaining programme as ever
